    State grants in Maryland

Howard P. Rawlings Guaranteed Access (GA) Grant:

The Guaranteed Access (GA) Grant is a need-based grant for Maryland students attending eligible 2-year or 4-year institutions. Another important factor is that applications must be attending college within six years of graduating high school. The grant award is based on the students financial need, but can be upwards of $20,000.

Howard P. Rawlings Educational Assistance (EA) Grant:

The Educational Assistance (EA) Grant is a renewable grant for Maryland residents attending eligible 2-year or 4-year colleges and universities. The award cap for each year is set at $3,000. It is only applicable to those receiving in-state tuition, except in the case of students who are deaf or hearing impaired.

    Community College Promise Scholarship:

The Community College Promise Scholarship is a last dollar scholarship for Maryland students attending a community college. The award is up to $5,000 and to apply students must complete the FAFSA

    Maryland tuition reciprocity agreements

If you are looking at a certain program that’s not available in Maryland, but is available in partner states in the Southern Regional Education Board Academic Common Market (ACM), you may be eligible for tuition discounts that allow you to study out of state at in-state tuition rates.

Here are the states in the Southern Regional Education Board ACM:

    Part Time Grant:

If you are a Maryland highschool student wanting to get a jump start on your college education, the Part Time Grant might be a great fit for you! This grant is for students who are dual-enrolled at both a Maryland high school and a high educational institution. You must submit the FAFSA to apply, and both you and your parents (if you’re a dependent student) must be Maryland Residents.

Frequently asked questions about colleges in Maryland:

The school with the lowest acceptance rate in Maryland is John Hopkins University, with only 8% of applicants being admitted. A low acceptance rate like this may be intimidating, but it’s important to not be discouraged from applying all together. Every student’s application is slightly different, and you never know what might catch an admissions officer’s eye!

Yes! Maryland is one of the states in the Southern Regional Education Board Academic Common Market (ACM), so if you’re a resident of a SREB state, you have the opportunity to go out of state for college and pay discounted tuition.

Maryland has both urban and more relaxed environments, which gives students a wide range of places to study and visit. Whether you are exploring the streets of Baltimore or taking time for yourself on Maryland’s scenic coast, this state has a lot to offer. Maryland also checks a lot of students’ boxes when it comes to diversity, proximity to larger cities, and opportunities.
