The National Merit Scholarship is an annual academic merit competition that awards high school juniors with college scholarship money for being among the highest-scoring students in the nation on the PSAT/NMSQT. While the number of scholarships awarded varies each year, 7,590 National Merit Scholarships are expected to be awarded in this upcoming school year. To be considered, students simply need to take the PSAT/NMSQT in October (during their junior year of high school).
