Consider in-state tuition and tuition reciprocity

In-state tuition costs in Delaware can be significantly lower than the out-of-state tuition rate. Therefore, it is an extremely attractive option for students looking to save money on their education to pay in-state tuition costs.

Here are a few well-known Delaware universities and their in-state vs out-of-state tuition costs:

University of Delaware

  • In-state tuition: $6,685
  • Out-of-state tuition: $17,945

Delaware State University

  • In-state tuition: $7,038
  • Out-of-state tuition: $16,960

Wondering how to become a Delaware resident to take advantage of in-state tuition? In order to establish residency in Delaware for tuition purposes, students must demonstrate that they have lived in Delaware for at least one year prior to enrollment in a university. This can include providing documentation such as a Delaware driver’s license, voter registration, or lease agreement. Additionally, students must demonstrate that they have the intent to remain in Delaware after graduation. However, residency requirements vary depending on the college, so students should check with their school’s admissions office for specific requirements to receive in-state tuition as a Delaware resident.

Delaware is not a member of any tuition reciprocity agreements. However, Delaware does participate in the Regional Contract Program with neighboring states, including Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. This contract allows students pursuing professional health degrees from these states to attend the University of Delaware at in-state tuition rates.
