The Scholarships360 Research Team reviews all scholarships individually and strives to exclude any scholarship where any of the below applies:

  • The scholarship requires a fee to apply
  • The scholarship provider’s privacy policy allows for the misuse of student data
  • The scholarship requires paid membership in an organization (with certain exceptions for reputable trade organizations and others)
  • Student are required to sign up for a site or service to apply*
  • The scholarship seems primarily used for lead generation** or idea harvesting purposes***
  • The scholarship website has many grammatical errors and/or advertisements
  • The scholarship or scholarship providing organization seem untrustworthy
  • There is no evidence the scholarship was previously awarded
  • The scholarship has not been awarded in the past 12 months
  • There is no available contact information

Scholarship Overview

“St. Andrew’s Society of Washington DC Founders’ Scholarship” applicants must be able to cite their Scottish descent and must submit a statement of their plans and goals. Other criteria applied by the Scholarship Committee include an identifiable need for financial assistance, a meritorious academic record, and an indication that the proposed course of study will materially contribute to the applicant’s intellectual development and economic independence. Special attention will be given to applicants whose work would demonstrably contribute toward enhancing knowledge of Scottish history or culture. Finalists must be willing, upon request, to make themselves available in person or by telephone for interview by the committee or its designated representative.

St. Andrew's Society of Washington, DC, founded over 250 years ago, is a fraternity of Scottish descendants from around the Nation's Capital who celebrate Scottish culture and heritage. Their mission to "relieve the distressed" is fulfilled through charitable works through the Washington Scots Charity & Education Fund.
