The Scholarships360 Research Team reviews all scholarships individually and strives to exclude any scholarship where any of the below applies:

  • The scholarship requires a fee to apply
  • The scholarship provider’s privacy policy allows for the misuse of student data
  • The scholarship requires paid membership in an organization (with certain exceptions for reputable trade organizations and others)
  • Student are required to sign up for a site or service to apply*
  • The scholarship seems primarily used for lead generation** or idea harvesting purposes***
  • The scholarship website has many grammatical errors and/or advertisements
  • The scholarship or scholarship providing organization seem untrustworthy
  • There is no evidence the scholarship was previously awarded
  • The scholarship has not been awarded in the past 12 months
  • There is no available contact information

The José Ventura and Margarita Melendez Mexican-American Scholarship Fund is a tribute to a beloved father who left the world too soon. Although his conditions made him unable to complete his own high school education, he ensured that each of his children were able to graduate from a four-year college, a testament to his unwavering support and commitment to their education. He believed that education held the key to unlocking opportunities and empowering individuals to create a brighter future for themselves and their communities. Thus, this scholarship aims to honor José Melendez's memory by supporting Mexican-American students who share his passion for education and overcoming barriers. Any Mexican or Mexican-American student who has graduated high school and is or will be a first-generation undergraduate student may apply for this scholarship. Are you a graduating, minority high school senior who demonstrates both academic excellence and financial need? If so, consider applying for the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) Scholarship! Each year, the scholarship awards winning applicants up to $35,000 over the course of four years. In addition to the monetary award, winners will be invited to JRF’s annual four-day “Mentoring and Leadership Conference” in New York City. Lastly, winners will receive four years' worth of a comprehensive program that includes career guidance, internship and job placement, and more. The scholarship is offered by the Jackie Robinson Foundation, an organization founded by Rachel Robinson in honor of her late husband. It was created with the goal of helping sponsor and support the education of talented young, minority youth.  If you’re an academically exceptional minority high school senior with plans to enroll in a U.S. college, we encourage you to apply!
