Are you a low-income, Nevada resident enrolled in one of NSHE's community colleges (College of Southern Nevada, Great Basin College, Truckee Meadows Community College, or Western Nevada College) or Nevada State College? If so, the Silver State Opportunity Grant (SSOG) may be a great opportunity for you! Each year, the grant is awarded to Nevada residents attending an NSHE Community College or Nevada State College who have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) under $8,500. Recipients' SSOG award amounts will be calculated by subtracting the student's contribution, their expected family contribution, and federal awards received from their total cost of attendance. Workplace incidents, no matter their level of severity, can have a devastating effect on a family. Beyond the emotional impact, it may also affect a family’s financial security. To help families who have been affected by such tragedies, the Kids’ Chance of Nevada Scholarship was established to help the children of workers who have been left badly injured or deceased in workplace incidents. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be the dependent of a worker left seriously injured or deceased in a work-related accident or occupational disease covered under Nevada Law. Applicants must also be between the ages of 16 and 25 and have been accepted to or be enrolled in a college or technical school. Recipients selected for the reward may earn up to $5,000 to go towards their education, depending upon a student’s financial need. The Girl Scout Gold Award is a prestigious honors granted to Girl Scouts who have completed two Senior or Ambassador Journeys, or have earned the Girl Scout Silver Award and completed one Senior or Ambassador Journey. These Journeys involve finding a local or global issue, researching it, and forming and carrying out a plan to tackle the issue with the help of a team. The Crutchfield-Healy Memorial Scholarship is a way to further recognize the accomplishments of a GSSN (Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada) Ambassador Girl Scout who has won the Gold Award. Established by Kathy Healy-Justice and named after her parents, the annual scholarship is open to graduating high school GSSN members who have earned the Girl Scout Gold Award. Applicants must also have applied for or be enrolled in a four-year college or university. One recipient is chosen per year to receive $2,000 towards her post-secondary education.
