Workplace incidents, no matter their level of severity, can have a devastating effect on a family. Beyond the emotional impact, it may also affect a family’s financial security. To help families who have been affected by such tragedies, the Kids’ Chance of Nevada Scholarship was established to help the children of workers who have been left badly injured or deceased in workplace incidents. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be the dependent of a worker left seriously injured or deceased in a work-related accident or occupational disease covered under Nevada Law. Applicants must also be between the ages of 16 and 25 and have been accepted to or be enrolled in a college or technical school. Recipients selected for the reward may earn up to $5,000 to go towards their education, depending upon a student’s financial need. Consider in-state tuition and tuition reciprocity

In-state tuition allows residents of a state to receive cheaper tuition for a college or university in their state. Additionally, many universities and colleges reserve scholarships and financial aid for in-state students, which helps reduce the cost of attending college for those who live there.

Here are a few well-known Nevada universities and their in-state vs out-of-state tuition costs:

    University of Nevada Las Vegas

    • In-state tuition: $9.299
    • Out-of-state tuition: $26,255

    Nevada State College

    • In-state tuition: $
    • Out-of-state tuition: $14,082

How do you get in-state tuition?

It is clear that in-state tuition is a cheaper option when compared to out-of-state tuition for Nevada public universities. So, how do you become a Nevada resident to unlock in-state tuition rates?

To establish residency for tuition purposes, a student must be able to prove continuous physical presence in Nevada for at least 12 months immediately preceding the semester of application. The presence must be coupled with clear evidence of intent to establish a domicile in Nevada beyond the circumstance of being a student.

Some examples of establishing a domicile include:

    • Place of employment and proof of earnings in Nevada
    • Proof of filing a Nevada state income tax return
    • Motor vehicle is registered in Nevada
    • Nevada driver’s license
    • Voter registration in Nevada
    • Change in permanent address on all pertinent records

For a full list of how to establish a domicile in Nevada in order to receive in-state tuition at Nevada public universities, you should consult the website of your intended university.

    Does Nevada offer tuition reciprocity?

Nevada is a member of the Western Undergraduate Exchange, which is a tuition reciprocity agreement. Through the Western Undergraduate Exchange, Nevada residents may enroll in certain programs at a variety of nearby public universities.
