How to win marketing scholarships

As with any type of scholarship, marketing scholarships are highly competitive. Each opportunity will receive many applicants and usually only has a few awards to give out. So, you’ll have to craft standout applications to win awards.

One of the best ways to do this is by giving yourself some time to reflect before you begin writing. Think about what motivates you to study marketing, and what change you hope to make in the world through your work. Reflect on past experiences and how they demonstrate skills that you have which will come in handy in the field.

As you reflect on these ideas, jot them down on a piece of paper. Don’t worry about grammar, succinctness, or even spelling – just put them down in bullet points or rough ideas, whichever is easiest for you. As you begin writing your essays, you can come back to this piece of paper for ideas. Refine your initial brainstorming session into succinct, powerful essays.

Crafting strong essays

Once you’ve spent some time reflecting, it’s time to start writing your essays. Of course, writing scholarship essays is its own craft and takes a unique set of skills. We can walk you through the process with a host of essay-writing resources. These include guides on how to start and end scholarship essays, how to respond to common prompts, and how to tailor your writing to 250 or 500 word limits. We can also help you write about yourself, and write a scholarship resume. Good luck!

Resources for marketing students

American Marketing Association

The American Marketing Association offers marketing students across the country an opportunity to network, learn about the state of the field, and even earn scholarships and find jobs. They have a national presence as well as local chapters at many colleges and universities. Be sure to look into student membership to help advance your career and scholarship.

Beta Gamma Sigma

Beta Gamma Sigma is an international business honors society. It’s an impressive addition to any resume, and has the added benefit of connecting marketing students with professionals and students in other subfields of the business world. This holistic connection can help you make more informed marketing decisions. They also offer grad school scholarships, GMAT and grad school application fee waivers, and access to journals and other marketing literature.
