State grants in Missouri

Access Missouri:

The Access Missouri financial assistance program helps Missouri students who demonstrate financial need pay their tuition. In order to be eligible, students need to attend a participating institution. Some of the approved schools include universities, technical colleges, and community colleges.

A+ Scholarship:

For those Missouri students attending certain high schools designated as “A+ schools,” they may be able to win funding for two years of community college or technical college through the A+ Scholarship Program. This is a merit scholarship based on grades, attendance, and tutoring/mentoring.

Advanced Placement Incentive Grant:

If you are a Missouri student who scored well on your advanced placement (AP) exams in a math or science course, such as Biology, Chemistry, or Statistics, you may be eligible to win money with the Advanced Placement Incentive Grant. In order to be eligible for the one-time grant, students must have scored a three or higher on at least two exams.

Missouri tuition reciprocity agreements

Missouri is a part of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC). This organization comes from legislation that made it so 12 midwestern states can work together to provide tuition discounts. Most of these discounts come in the form of providing out-of-state students the opportunity to pay in-state tuition.

Here are the states in the MHEC:

Frequently asked questions about colleges in Missouri

What is the hardest college in Missouri to get into?

The college with the lowest acceptance rate in Missouri is Washington University in St Louis, with only 13% of students being accepted. Though this is a somewhat lower acceptance rate, if this school seems like the right fit for you, it never hurts to apply!

Does Missouri have tuition reciprocity?

Yes! Missouri is a part of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC), which means if you are a student looking to study out-of-state, you may have the opportunity to study in one of the MHEC’s partner states at a discounted tuition rate.

Why should I study in Missouri?

Beyond the educational opportunities from Missouri’s many universities, studying in Missouri gives you the opportunity to explore cities like St. Louis and Kansas City. Compared to other states in the country, the cost of living is relatively lower, plus tuition reciprocity makes it so that you may be able to receive discounts even as an out-of-state student. If you’re a fan of mountains, the Ozark Mountains are a popular destination for Missouri residents.
