Student Financial Assistance Grant (State Grant):
The Student Financial Assistance Grant, also known as the State Grant, is a need-based program for North Dakota students. Students can use this grant at accredited North Dakota institutions, so long as their program is at least two years. The grant is renewable, and early application is recommended.
Academic, Career, & Technical Education North Dakota Scholarships:
There are three different scholarships that the state of North Dakota offers; the ND Academic Scholarship, the ND Career and Technical Education (CTE) Scholarship, and the ND Scholarship. This scholarship has multiple payment periods, which means the more credits you accrue, the longer you will be awarded. This model encourages students to finish their degree.
North Dakota Scholars Program:
The North Dakota Scholars Program is a merit based scholarship for North Dakota students working to get their Bachelor’s degree. In order to incentivise North Dakota promising students to stay for college, students may receive an award worth the full cost of their tuition at a North Dakota public institution.
North Dakota tuition reciprocity agreements
North Dakota is a part of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC). This organization comes from legislation that made it so 12 midwestern states can work together to provide tuition discounts. Most of these discounts come in the form of providing out-of-state students the opportunity to pay in-state tuition.
