The MTAG (Mississippi Resident Tuition Assistance Grant)'s primary objective is to provide educational opportunities for Mississippi residents who wish to pursue in-state postsecondary education and do not already benefit from federal need-based aid. Applicants must be eligible for less than the full Federal Pell Grant as determined by completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, they must have earned a minimum 2.5 GPA throughout high school and a 15 on the ACT. Recipients of the grant may receive funding for up to 8 semesters (12 trimesters) or degree completion, whichever comes first. MTAG awards up to $500 per academic year for freshmen and sophomores and $1,000 per academic year for juniors and seniors. The Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant (MSEG)'s primary objective is to provide educational opportunities for high-achieving high school students who wish to pursue post-secondary education in the state of Mississippi. To be eligible, applicants must have been Mississippi residents for at least one year, have a high school GPA of at least 3.5, and score a minimum of 29 on the ACT/1350 on the SAT, or be named a National Merit Finalist or Semi-Finalist. Recipients of the grant may receive funding for up to 8 semesters (12 trimesters) or degree completion, whichever comes first. MESG awards up to $2,500 per academic year, but the awards may not exceed recipients' tuition and required fee costs.
