Top Maine scholarships
Clyde Russell Scholarship Fund
- Eligibility: Must be a resident of Maine. There are two awards. One for high school seniors attending a four-year college and one for high school seniors attending a Maine community college.
- Amount: The maximum award for students attending a four-year college is $10,000; the maximum award for students attending community college is $2,000.
- Deadline: February 1, 2022
Maine Island Scholarships
- Eligibility: Residents of Maine’s fifteen year-round unbridged island communities who are currently enrolled in or have graduated from the highest grade level available at their island school. (Chebeague, Cliff, Great Diamond, Long, Peaks, Frenchboro, Great Cranberry, Islesford, Swan’s, Isle au Haut, Islesboro, Matinicus, Monhegan, North Haven, Vinalhaven.)
- Amount: $1,500 – $2,500
- Deadline: February 28, 2022
A Leigh Phillips Scholarship
- Eligibility: Graduating high school senior with a disability identified under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Maine Special Education Regulations Chapter 101, going on to postsecondary education. Special consideration is given to applicants with exceptional achievement in extra-curriculars, core-curriculars, volunteerism, academics, and/or leadership.
- Amount: $1,000
- Deadline: March 1, 2022
Mainely Character
- Eligibility: Maine resident graduating from a Maine high school in the year of application. Demonstrate character traits of concern, responsibility, integrity, and courage.
- Amount: $2,500 – $5,000
- Deadline: March 1, 2022
PROSPER Scholarship
- Eligibility: For immigrant/asylum-seeking students who live in the state of Maine. Must not be eligible for federal financial aid. Maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher. Enroll in a Maine college.
- Amount: Varies
- Deadline: March 1, 2022
Barowsky Scholars
- Eligibility: Students residing in the state of Maine who are planning to attend a four-year college for their bachelor’s degree. Students who are interested in honing their careful listening, civic discourse, facilitation, and negotiation skills to become leaders that build trust and find common ground across people and groups with differing views and experiences.
- Amount: $5,000 – $25,000 per year, renewable for 4 years.
- Deadline: March 15, 2022
The Richard H. Pierce Memorial Scholarship
- Eligibility: Maine resident entering their first year of post-secondary education. Demonstrate financial need. Demonstrate academic excellence and contributions to school, community and/or work environment.
- Amount: $5,000
- Deadline: April 1, 2022
Jeanne L. Hammond Memorial Scholarship
- Eligibility: Women who are residents of Maine. Must demonstrate financial need. Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree or certification on at least a half time basis.
- Amount: $1,500
- Deadline: April 13, 2022
Lemieux-Lovejoy Youth Scholarship
- Eligibility: Women who are residents of Maine who will enroll as a first-year in an accredited college or post-secondary education. Demonstrate financial need.
- Amount: $1,500
- Deadline: April 13, 2022
Adult Learner Scholarship Fund
- Eligibility: Scholarship for nontraditional students in Maine. The scholarship supports a range of training, including short-term and long-term programs. Consult site for more details
- Amount: Short term: $1,500; Long term: $1,500 – $5,000
- Deadline: Short term: Awarded on a rolling basis. Applications should be submitted by the first of the month prior to when your program starts. Long term: June 15 and November 15.

Scholarships from individual schools
Many 4-year and community colleges in Maine have their own institutional scholarship programs. For example: The University of Maine, The University of Southern Maine, Eastern Maine Community College, and Northern Maine Community College. Be sure to check the institutional scholarships at the school(s) you plan to attend.
FAFSA guide
On October 1st of every year, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens nationwide. Maine students should complete the FAFSA to be eligible for federal student aid as well as some scholarships.
