How to win scholarships for Christian students

If you’re applying for scholarships for Christian students, you may be required to submit an essay as part of your application. Scholarship committees rely on essays to get to know applicants on a deeper level. This is a great opportunity to emphasize the importance of your Christian faith and discuss what your religion means to you. You can also write about how your Christian upbringing shaped you as a person, and how your faith has helped shape your goals for the future.

To learn more about how to craft a compelling essay, we encourage you to explore the following resources:

Resources for Christian students

There are a variety of organizations and  resources designed to support students of Christian faith. Here are a few worth checking out:

InterVarsity

InterVarsity is a campus ministry with chapters at over 700 schools across the country. It’s a great group to join if you’re interested in making connections with other Christian students and developing your faith during your time in college.

Global Medical Missions Alliance (GMMA)

GMMA is an international association of current and future Christian healthcare professionals. The organization hosts a variety of conferences, local and global outreach projects, and student networking opportunities. There are also mentorship programs that pair students with active and retired professionals in the medical field.

Chi Alpha

Chi Alpha is a network of Christian ministries spread across more than 300 college campuses throughout the U.S. and around the world. The organization is dedicated to connecting with Christian students and helping them reach their full potential. Check out this campus locator to find a Chi Alpha chapter near you.

Frequently asked questions about Christian scholarships

Here are some of the frequently asked questions from students about Christian scholarships:

Can churches give scholarships?

Yes, churches can and do give scholarships to students! In fact, your local church may offer specific scholarships for parishioners of the local church. These local church scholarships are great for students because there is generally less competition for the awards. This makes them a great source of potential scholarships for students.

In addition to the above scholarships, we’d recommend that all Christian students reach out to their local parish to see what scholarship opportunities might be available.

Do colleges award scholarships for Christian students?

Yes, they do! There are a number of top Christian colleges including schools like Boston College, BYU, Fordham University, Liberty University, Notre Dame, and Wheaton College! All of these colleges offer need-based financial aid and some of them will also offer merit scholarships to high-achieving students.

Remember, if you are applying for need-based financial aid you will need to submit the FAFSA and in some cases, the CSS Profile.
