Each year, the awards grants up to $5,000 to 5-8 LGBTQ+ students from the DC Metro Area who have demonstrated impressive leadership either in their schools or local communities. Are you a Black, male, high school senior who is residing in Washington D.C. and will be attending a UNCF Member Institution or any other accredited, four-year HBCU? If so, the LeBlanc/Baker Scholarship for Change may be a great opportunity for you! Each year, the scholarship awards up to $4,000 to multiple Black male high school seniors who will be attending a UNCF Member Institution or HBCU and have a GPA that is over 2.0, but under 3.0. Recipients may be eligible for awards for up to four (4) additional years within a five (5) year period so long as they "maintain academic standing consistent with the student’s institution standards for continued enrollment." The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Lambda Scholarship may be a good fit for you! The scholarship is funded by LULAC Lambda itself. LULAC Lambda is one of 1,000 local councils across the United States affiliated with the League of United Latin American Citizens, the nation’s largest and oldest Latinx civil rights volunteer-based organization. One of the goals of LULAC is to increase access to education, so it encourages local councils like LULAC Lambda to sponsor scholarships. As part of the scholarship, LULAC awards multiple $1,000 scholarships which can be used for any educational expense. Are you a post-secondary student of Scottish birth or heritage? If so, the St. Andrew's Society of Washington DC Founders' Scholarship may be a great opportunity for you! Each year, the scholarship is awarded to multiple post-secondary students of Scottish birth or heritage. Bear in mind that applicants from the United States must also hold permanent residence in the Mid-Atlantic Region (the District of Columbia, the States of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, West Virginia, and the Commonwealths of Pennsylvania and Virginia). Other evaluation criteria include an identifiable need for financial assistance, a meritorious academic record, and an indication that the proposed course of study will materially contribute to the applicant's intellectual development and economic independence. Ebert Legacy of Life Scholarship Program is open to current high school seniors residing in Maryland, the District of Columbia, or specific counties in Northern Virginia (see full list under "Eligibility Information"). The scholarship is presented by the Restaurant Association of Maryland to honor the life of Eddie Hermond. Eddie was a longtime manager of Victoria Gastro Pub, Manor Hill Tavern, and an active member of the Maryland National Guard who lost his life in the 2018 flood in Ellicott City while trying to save the life of another. The Abramson Scholarship Program annually awards between $2,000 to Washington D.C. high school seniors who have been accepted to an accredited four-year college in the United States. Are you a LGBTQ+ high school student-athlete in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area? The Team DC Student-Athlete Scholarship may be a good fit for you! Each year, Team DC offers $2,000 scholarships to a number of self-identified LGBTQ+ high school seniors in the D.C. metropolitan area who have made a contribution to a sport they are passionate about. The funds can be used to offset any educational expenses the student may face as they enter a two or four-year accredited college or university. Since 2008, Team DC has been able to award $112,000 in scholarships to promising young LGBTQ+ athletes/role models.  Being open about your sexuality as a young person is incredibly difficult.
