The Scholarships360 Research Team reviews all scholarships individually and strives to exclude any scholarship where any of the below applies:

  • The scholarship requires a fee to apply
  • The scholarship provider’s privacy policy allows for the misuse of student data
  • The scholarship requires paid membership in an organization (with certain exceptions for reputable trade organizations and others)
  • Student are required to sign up for a site or service to apply*
  • The scholarship seems primarily used for lead generation** or idea harvesting purposes***
  • The scholarship website has many grammatical errors and/or advertisements
  • The scholarship or scholarship providing organization seem untrustworthy
  • There is no evidence the scholarship was previously awarded
  • The scholarship has not been awarded in the past 12 months
  • There is no available contact information

* There are certain exceptions to this, for example if the sponsoring organization is a major corporation or nonprofit with its own scholarship application system.

Scholarship Overview

Are you a LGBTQ+ high school student-athlete in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area? The Team DC Student-Athlete Scholarship may be a good fit for you! Each year, Team DC offers $2,000 scholarships to a number of self-identified LGBTQ+ high school seniors in the D.C. metropolitan area who have made a contribution to a sport they are passionate about. The funds can be used to offset any educational expenses the student may face as they enter a two or four-year accredited college or university. Since 2008, Team DC has been able to award $112,000 in scholarships to promising young LGBTQ+ athletes/role models. 

Being open about your sexuality as a young person is incredibly difficult. It is so admirable to live as your authentic self and provide hope and inspiration for other LGBTQ+ athletes. If you’re a LGBTQ+ student-athlete in the D.C. area and want to be awarded for simply being yourself, then the Team DC Student-Athlete Scholarship could be a good fit for you!

In order to be eligible for this scholarship, you must live in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, be a student-athlete, and plan on attending a postsecondary institution. Applicants must also meet the eligibility criteria below.
