If so, you may be eligible for the ALU LIKE, Inc. Hana Lima Scholarship! Each year, their scholarship awards $1,500 each to multiple such students who are enrolled in a 2-year vocational program at an eligible institution of higher education in Hawaii (a full list of eligible institutions can be found on the ALU Like, Inc. website). The Blakemore Freeman Fellowship is open to college graduates pursuing a professional, business, or academic career that will require the regular use of East or Southeast Asian languages. Applicants should have already formally studied their target language for at least three years and be willing to partake in extensive language study in an eligible program during the term of the grant. The scholarship is offered by the Blakemore Foundation, a Washington-based charitable trust dedicated to encouraging the use of Asian languages and increasing the understanding of Asian art within the United States. Every year, the fellowship covers tuition, and awards a stipend for related educational expenses, and basic living and transportation costs for the language programs of each of the winning applicants. The scholarship is open to international women who want to earn a STEM degree in the U.S. or Canada and are allowed to legally study in the U.S. or Canada. Thus, international women looking to study in the U.S. must have a Green Card, DACA status, or a valid visa. The Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois encourages academically talented Illinois students, especially minority students, to pursue teaching careers, especially at high-need, hard-to-staff schools by providing tuition assistance at one of the participating colleges. College underclassmen may qualify for up to $2,500, and college upperclassmen may qualify for up to $5,000. As part of the application process, applicants must agree to teach, on a full-time basis, for a period of not less than five years at nonprofit Illinois preschools, or Illinois public elementary or secondary schools considered a "School of Need." Recipients must begin teaching not more than two years after completing their degree or certificate program, and if this commitment is not fulfilled, the award will convert to a loan requiring repayment with interest.
