    Top radiology scholarships

Our team looks at many different factors when determining our top scholarships, including the reputability of the scholarship provider, and the awards that are being offered. Below are what we consider to be the top 3 overall radiology scholarships:

    • Regeneron Science Talent Search – One of the oldest and most prestigious pre-college science contests in the country! Students must submit an original research paper to apply. There are multiple awards for the competition, with the top award being worth $250,000!
    • Science Ambassador Scholarship – Open to women or non-binary high school seniors or undergraduate students who submit a three-minute educational video on a STEM topic they’re passionate about. Each year, 5 awards worth $20,000 each are awarded!
    • Davidson Institute Fellows Scholarship – For students in the U.S. under the age of 18 who have created a significant piece of work that is recognized by experts as meaningful for society. Top award is worth $50,000!

    How to win radiology scholarships

    Look for local opportunities

If you are a student looking to study radiology, it’s a good idea to try and get some experience in a medical setting early on in your academic career. Not only will this give you a glimpse into the world of medicine so you can make sure the field of study is right for you, but it will also look fantastic on a resume. Many hospitals have programs that allow students to volunteer in high school and college. Also, look into local opportunities that might allow you to conduct research, such as student research programs and internships.

    Tailor your resume

Once you have gained experience, start tailoring your scholarship resume to reflect the skills you have learned. As a student, you can also add clubs or extracurriculars that have to do with STEM or anything medical.

    Polish your essay writing skills

Many of the Radiology scholarships listed above require a writing component, whether that is a short essay or a research paper. Check out our specific writing guides to help you answer common questions like “How will this scholarship help you achieve your goals?” or “Why do you deserve this scholarship?”. Happy writing!

    Resources for radiology students

Any sort of medical degree is not exactly easy to come by. It takes a lot of hard work and support. That’s why it’s important to know about any resources that might be available to you as a radiology student and where you can find other students or practicing radiologists to join your network. Below are some organizations that connect radiology students and those in the medical community:

    Radiology Student Interest Group

An organization that connects students to radiologists at multiple institutions, this is a great resource for any student looking to learn more about radiology. Admission is free and they offer many free virtual events to medical students.

Lambda Nu National Honor Society Radiologic and Imaging Sciences

Lambda Nu is a national honor society, which means there is an overarching national organization, as well as individual chapters within specific radiology programs at different schools. This organization aims to foster academic achievement for its members and promote research in radiology and imaging sciences.

    HOSA-Future Health Professionals

HOSA is a student-led organization that provides programs for students of all ages. Whether you are a middle school student dreaming of becoming a doctor in the future, or actively working towards your medical degree, this is a great organization to consider joining! There are many education opportunities within HOSA as well as competitions and scholarships.

Frequently asked questions about radiology scholarships

How much money do radiology technologists earn?

Salaries for radiologic technologists vary widely based on location and experience level, but according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics the average annual salary in 2023 was $76,020 per year, or $36.55 per hour.

Is radiology hard to study in college?

Radiology is considered a difficult subject, as you’ll need a thorough understanding of the human body, as well as medical technology. Certain programs might be considered more rigorous than others, but overall many premedical courses around the country are considered to be challenging for many students.

How long does it take to become a radiologist?

After graduating high school, it takes around 13 years of training to become a radiologist. After 4 years of undergraduate education, students will need to attend an additional 4 years of medical school, followed by a year of internship, and finally 4 years of residency.

Can you become a radiologist without going to med school?

Because a radiologist is a medical doctor, you can not become a radiologist without attending medical school. You can, however, become a radiologic technician without attending medical school. Most job boards list an associate’s degree as being the lowest level of achieved education to become a radiology technician.
