Dedicated to improving people’s health and defending them from disease? Public health is a field always in need of more students. If you’ve been wanting to study public health but weren’t sure how to fund your education, we’ve luckily compiled a list of the top public health scholarships for you.

To learn how to save lives (and save your money), keep on reading to find out about the top public health scholarships!

Jump ahead to…

How to win public health scholarships

If you are a current or prospective public health student, you are smart to consider public health scholarships to pay for your degree. Whether you are an undergraduate student or a graduate student, scholarships represent free money that does not need to be repaid. The first step towards winning scholarships is putting together a compelling application which can include transcripts, test scores, essays, interviews, and recommendation letters.

Any scholarship that is focused on supporting students in a specific major will be looking at your achievement within that field, as well as your broader ambitions. This is certainly the case with public health scholarships and why it is important to connect your application to the public health field.

For example, you can focus your essays on your experiences in public health inside and outside of the classroom. If you don’t have a ton of experiences to draw on, that’s not a problem. Instead, you can talk about books, podcasts, and other ways that you engage with public health. If your passion for public health was started by something that happened to you personally, you can also feel free to draw upon that.

Frequently asked questions about public health scholarships

Does the FAFSA cover a Master in Public Health degree?

As long as your graduate program in public health is at an accredited college in the U.S., then yes, you can apply for financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA. The FAFSA will allow you to apply for a variety of need-based financial aid options including grants, student loans, and federal work study. With this said, simply completing the FAFSA does not guarantee that you will receive financial aid.

What are the highest paying jobs in public health?

The salaries for public health jobs vary greatly, as there are many career options in public health. However, there are some that tend to pay more than others (just keep in mind that these numbers may vary by your location as well!). With that said, a few of the highest paying jobs in public health by average annual salary include: a Public Health Attorney ($122,960), a Computer and Information Systems Manager in Healthcare ($146,360), and a Medical and Health Services Manager ($100,980). What does a Master in Public Health (MPH) do?

Good question! Broadly speaking, getting a Masters in Public Health degree will train you to defend and improve the health of entire populations. Students will learn to handle the challenging health issues that impact communities, work with people across many regions, and inform the public about the best health care practices. Also, more specifically, a MPH teaches you how to analyze data, alter/influence public policy (for the better), study threats to public health, and conduct important research.
