Psychology is one of the most popular college majors. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, there are over 110,000 psychology degrees conferred each year. Students who major in psychology can go on into a variety of fields including counseling, teaching, business, and social work.

Whether you are a current psychology major or simply thinking about a major in the field, it’s a good idea to apply for psychology scholarships to pay for your education. In this list, we’ve compiled the top, vetted psychology students. Each of these opportunities has been personally reviewed by our team and verified to ensure that you are only seeing the best of the best. Let’s get into it!

Jump ahead to:

How to win psychology scholarships

Now that you’ve got some great opportunities to apply for, it’s time to get started on your applications. As most scholarships receive a large number of applicants, it’s important to use your application to stand out from the crowd. One way you can do so is through your essays.

As a student pursuing psychology, it’s a good idea to take a moment to determine your career goals before you sit down to write. Think about the path you want to take your career in (don’t worry – you can change this later!) and write what compels you to pursue it. Discuss any personal experiences that have motivated you to pursue your interest.

If you are hoping to be a research psychologist, you could discuss how you hope to change the world via your research. On the other hand, if you hope to be a clinical psychologist, you could write about the type of support you hope to provide your future patients. In any case, framing your application in terms of future goals is always a good idea.

Writing a great essay

Now that you’ve done some reflection, it’s time to get writing. Luckily, we can help with that as well! Check out our guides on how to write a winning scholarship essay, how to write essays about yourself, and how to start a scholarship essay

In addition to those resources, we have a few more guides to help you ace each of your applications:

Resources for psychology students

As a psychology student, you have the opportunity to join a wide array of institutions nationwide that can help you gain real-world experience, connect with other students, and even find additional scholarships. Frequently asked questions about psychology scholarships

Can I use psychology scholarships to study psychiatry?

The answer to this question depends on the scholarship — though these fields share some key similarities, they involve different courses of study. Though some scholarships will allow students of both disciplines, you should check the terms and conditions of the opportunity thoroughly before applying. If you are still unsure, you can reach out to the scholarship provider.

Are psychology scholarships available for high school students?

Yes! Many of these opportunities allow applicants who are in high school. These opportunities typically require less firm commitment to the field of psychology. It’s often enough for a high school student to show interest in studying psychology. However, once you enter college, most psychology scholarships will require that you have declared a psychology major or minor.
