All across the country, there is a demand for workers in critical need industries that help keep society running. While there may be slight regional variation in these, some consistent ones across the United States include healthcare, mass transit/transportation, and utilities. To encourage Kansas natives to pursue such important fields in the state, the Kansas Board of Regents is kindly offering the Kansas Promise Act Scholarship! Open to Kansas residents pursuing a "critical need" two-year degree or certification at an in-state program, the Kansas Promise Act Scholarship is a "last dollar" scholarship, meaning it covers the remaining schooling fees required after other financial aid is subtracted. To qualify, students must have graduated from a Kansas high school sometime within the past year and be pursuing an eligible 'high wage, high demand, or critical need" field. In exchange for receiving scholarship assistance, recipients must commit to living and working in Kansas for two consecutive years following graduation. If this sounds like a good opportunity for you, we encourage you to apply and check out these other trade school scholarships, community college scholarships, and Kansas scholarships! Bear in mind that the Promise Act Scholarship runs three times a year, with deadlines for the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters falling in March, July, and October, respectively. The MyOTC.com Scholarship for Health Access is a $5,000 scholarship from Chapter to support the next generation of healthcare professionals. Open to high school seniors, undergraduate, and graduate students pursuing careers in medicine, nursing, public health, or related fields, this scholarship invites students to think critically about one of the most important challenges in healthcare today: access. Many individuals, especially older adults, face barriers to everyday health and wellness, even when benefits are available. For example, the average senior enrolled in Medicare Advantage receives $400 annually in over-the-counter (OTC) health credits, yet a significant portion goes unused due to lack of awareness or accessibility. Through this scholarship, Chapter aims to highlight these gaps and support students who are passionate about improving health outcomes in their communities. Selection Criteria Scholarships360 will review applications and award this scholarship on the basis of: Quality, clarity, and originality of the applicant’s essay response Demonstrated academic effort and achievement, including but not limited to GPA (as evidenced by transcript or self-reported academic history) Alignment of the applicant’s experiences, goals, and interests with the purpose of the scholarship Finalists for this scholarship will be contacted for a brief interview.Show Less

The Rose Petals and Apples Scholarship Fund is dedicated to empowering single mothers who aspire to become educators, celebrating the life of a remarkable woman who embodied resilience, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to service. Rosella Tellez Madrid was more than a teacher; she was a beacon of hope and strength for her community. Her journey began as a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother, teaching her own three children and instilling in them the values of generosity and community care. She often gave what she could—clothing, school supplies, and love—to those who needed it most. In her mid-thirties, Rosella made the courageous decision to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher. She earned her degree from UTEP and began her career at Scotsdale Elementary as a 5th-grade teacher. By the age of 38, facing the challenges of single motherhood, she set her sights even higher, returning to school to pursue a Master’s in Education at NMSU. While pursuing her Master's degree, Rosella faced a devastating diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), with a prognosis of only 2-5 years to live. Yet, her determination was unshakable. In May 1999, Rosella achieved her goal, walking across the graduation stage with a cane, a powerful testament to her resilience and drive. Though her career was cut short by illness, Rosella’s impact endures. She spent her remaining years surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, learning, and community service that continues to inspire. On the 20th anniversary of her passing, the Rose Petals and Apples Scholarship Fund is launched in Rosella’s memory. This fund honors her life by supporting single mothers who, like her, are pursuing their dreams of becoming educators despite life’s challenges. Through this scholarship, we celebrate Rosella’s indomitable spirit and encourage other single mothers to follow in her footsteps, knowing that their perseverance and dedication can create lasting change for themselves, their families, and their communities. To every woman who carries the weight of dreams and challenges alike - may Rosella’s story remind you that you are capable of greatness, and your journey can inspire generations to come.Show Less

    Top psychology scholarships overall

Our editorial team chose these top picks based off three factors: Award amount, reliability of the offering institution, and wide eligibility requirements. That means each of these scholarships has been offered for some time, has a substantial reward, and you will have a good chance of qualifying. Let’s get into it!

    How to win psychology scholarships

Now that you’ve got some great opportunities to apply for, it’s time to get started on your applications. As most scholarships receive a large number of applicants, it’s important to use your application to stand out from the crowd.

    Reflect before you write

As a student pursuing psychology, it’s a good idea to take a moment to determine your career goals before you sit down to write. Think about the path you want to take your career in (don’t worry – you can change this later!) and write what compels you to pursue it. Discuss any personal experiences that have motivated you to pursue your interest.

If you are hoping to be a research psychologist, you could discuss how you hope to change the world via your research. On the other hand, if you hope to be a clinical psychologist, you could write about the type of support you hope to provide your future patients. In any case, framing your application in terms of how your past experiences inform your future goals is always a good idea.

    Writing a great essay

Now that you’ve done some reflection, it’s time to get writing. Luckily, we can help with that as well! Check out our guides on how to write a winning scholarship essay, how to write essays about yourself, and how to start a scholarship essay.

In addition to those resources, we have a few more guides to help you ace each of your applications:

    Research your organizations

As you write the answers to each scholarship prompt, don’t just think about the prompt – think about the organization and its values. Before you apply to a scholarship, look up the organization’s mission, and make sure you are bringing out this mission in the way you answer your prompt. This will help the organization feel sure that you are a great choice for the scholarship.

    Resources for psychology students

As a psychology student, you have the opportunity to join a wide array of institutions nationwide that can help you gain real-world experience, connect with other students, and even find additional scholarships. Here are a few organizations that you might consider joining to secure additional funding and advance your career.

    Association for Psychological Science

Student membership to the APS includes access to a research database, entry to annual conferences, eligibility for awards and honors, and many more opportunities. Discounted membership is available for undergraduate and graduate students.

    Psi Chi Honor Society

Rather than charging an annual membership fee, Psi Chi charges a one-time fee for entry, which provides lifetime access to exclusive grants, scholarships, career opportunities, and more. If you qualify for Psi Chi, consider joining today!

    American Psychological Association

You might recognize the APA as creators of the APA citation format used in many academic bibliographies. This association also offers students access to networking opportunities, research, scholarships, and a lot more!

Frequently asked questions about psychology scholarships

Can I use psychology scholarships to study psychiatry?

The answer to this question depends on the scholarship — though these fields share some key similarities, they involve different courses of study. Though some scholarships will allow students of both disciplines, you should check the terms and conditions of the opportunity thoroughly before applying. If you are still unsure, you can reach out to the scholarship provider.

Are psychology scholarships available for high school students?

Yes! Many of these opportunities allow applicants who are in high school. These opportunities typically require less firm commitment to the field of psychology. It’s often enough for a high school student to show interest in studying psychology. However, once you enter college, most psychology scholarships will require that you have declared a psychology major or minor.
