The John Henry Comstock Graduate Student Awards are six awards given to one graduate student from each ESA Branch to promote interest in entomology at the graduate level and to stimulate interest in attending the ESA Annual Meeting. Students members are eligible to compete for this award in one Branch only. Each award consists of an all-expenses-paid trip to the meeting, a $100 cash prize, and a certificate. Expenses paid include reimbursed airfare, free hotel arrangements, free meeting registration, and a per diem allowance. These annual awards are presented during the ESA Annual Meeting.

Applicants must have have a minimum grade point average of 2.25 based on a scale of 4.0, or 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 for a graduate student. Preference will be given to an applicant who plans to work in any aspect of the nursery industry following graduation, including the desire to own one's own business. Preference will also be given to an applicant in financial need.

The Carville M. Akehurst Memorial Scholarship is awarded to qualified students to help ensure the continuity of the nursery and landscape profession. Applicants must have at least a junior standing in a four-year curriculum or senior standing in a two-year curriculum as of the fall semester of scholarship application year and have a minimum grade point average overall of 2.7 based on a scale of 4.0, and a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 in their major. Preference will be given to applicants who plan to work within the industry (including nursery operation, landscape architecture/design/construction/maintenance, interiorscape, horticultural distribution, or retail garden center) following graduation. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation.

The Plant-Insect Ecosystem (P-IE) Integrated Pest Management Team Award celebrates the power of collaboration in pest control and is presented by P-IE and Corteva Agriscience and the Agriculture Division of DowDuPont. It gives priority to, but is not limited to, small teams (10 or fewer members) that include entomologists from both the private and public sectors. The focus is on teamwork and project success, aligned with the subject matter of the Plant-Insect Ecosystems Section. During the ESA Annual Meeting, each winning team member will receive a trophy at the Monday afternoon P-IE Networking Session. At least one team member must be an ESA member of the P-IE Section.

The P-IE Lifetime Achievement in Entomology Award, formerly known as P-IE Legends of Entomology Award, recognizes the career of an entomologist who has greatly contributed to the advancement or promotion of entomology, and has been an inspiration to others. The award, consisting of an inscribed plaque, is presented at the Monday afternoon P-IE Networking Session during the ESA Annual Meeting. Recipients are expected to attend the session to receive the award. To facilitate attendance, awardees will receive a travel stipend of $1,000 and waiver of registration to the ESA Annual Meeting. Anyone with at least 20 years of experience as an entomologist is eligible to be nominated. Nominations can be made by anyone.

"Insect" is defined here to include insect allies. This award consists of a plaque and cash award based on the interest earned from the Thomas Say Award endowment. At least one of the authors of the nominated work must be an ESA member of the SysEB Section. Terms of the endowment state that the criteria below are required: The nomination is based on a single published work by the nominee (either as sole or first-author) considered to be significant and outstanding in one or more of the fields of insect systematics, morphology, or evolution. The work being nominated must have been published a minimum of two full years prior to the date of nomination and have at least 15 citations.
