The scholarship is open to students enrolled at a participating undergraduate institution who will be graduating during the same academic year as the deadline, or who have graduated from a participating institution in the past 12 months. The Winston Churchill Foundation has offered the scholarship since its establishment during the founding of Churchill College, Cambridge. Since its inception, recipients of the scholarship have been awarded $65,000 for one year of study at the University of Cambridge for an MPhil (Master of Philosophy) or MASt (Master of Advanced Study) degree. The Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (The Australian National University) will award one student who will then undertake collaborative research with faculty in the arts, humanities, and social sciences at The Australian National University (ANU). The selected Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Science, Technology, and Innovation (CSIRO) will conduct innovative scientific research related to critical challenges facing the U.S. and Australia.
