This scholarship will be awarded to students who get the most out of Scholarships360 scholarships and content. You will be a strong applicant if you apply to scholarships with the Scholarships360 platform. Finalists for this scholarship will be interviewed about their process for funding their education. Each year, the scholarship awards $2,500 and $1,250, respectively, to the first- and second-place applicants who write the most thoughtful essays answering the year's prompt. While the prompts generally relate to America's place in the global community and/or foreign relations, the prompts change each year. Thus, we recommend visiting the American Foreign Service Association's website before starting your essay. In addition to the monetary award, the first-place winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. and an educational voyage with Semester at Sea, while the runner-up will receive full tuition to attend a summer session of the National Student Leadership Conference’s International Diplomacy program. The Clara Carter Higgins Summer Environmental Studies Scholarship is an amazing opportunity allowing undergraduate students to gain knowledge and experience in the environmental field beyond the regular course of study. Each year, the scholarship awards $3,000 to an undergraduate who has demonstrated a keen interest in the betterment of the environment. The scholarship will be used for summer studies at a site chosen by the student. Some of the summer programs students have completed recently include the study of hazardous waste, marine science, energy, plant resources in the tropics, barrier island ecology, and oil spill cleanup and control. This scholarship was established by Clara Carter Higgins, a member of the Worcester (Massachusetts) Garden Club who firmly believed in the importance of conservation. This scholarship annually provides $3,000 in financial assistance to one student for fieldwork, research, or classroom work. Work may award academic credit but should be in addition to required courses. The program is open to Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian high school sophomores and juniors who plan to pursue higher education. The program is offered by College Horizons, an organization that has served Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian students by assisting them in achieving their higher education goals since 1998. Thus, their Summer Workshop offers a “crash course” to help students with the college application process. The individualized program helps students select colleges suitable for them to apply to, get admitted to, and receive adequate financial aid from.
