Offered by American Foreign Service Association
Are you a U.S. citizen or resident currently in high school? If so, you might consider applying for the American Foreign Service Association High School Essay Contest! Each year, the scholarship awards $2,500 and $1,250, respectively, to the first- and second-place applicants who write the most thoughtful essays answering the year’s prompt. While the prompts generally relate to America’s place in the global community and/or foreign relations, the prompts change each year. Thus, we recommend visiting the American Foreign Service Association’s website before starting your essay.
In addition to the monetary award, the first-place winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. and an educational voyage with Semester at Sea, while the runner-up will receive full tuition to attend a summer session of the National Student Leadership Conference’s International Diplomacy program.
