Are you a U.S. citizen or resident currently in high school? If so, you might consider applying for the American Foreign Service Association High School Essay Contest! Each year, the scholarship awards up to $2,500 to multiple students who write the most thoughtful essay about the role of the civilian government in promoting peace around the world. In addition to the monetary award, winners receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. and an educational voyage with Semester at Sea. If you’re passionate about civilian government/foreign service and want to be awarded for your dedication, we encourage you to apply!

Eligibility information
In order to apply for this scholarship, applicants must be high school (grades 9-12) students who are U.S. citizens or residents, in addition to meeting the below eligibility requirements. Homeschooled students may also apply, but previous scholarship winners or relatives of AFSA staff may not.
