Awarding up to $2,000 per year, the CIRI Foundation Jump Start Award provides financial assistance to descendants of the original Alaska Native shareholders of Cook Inlet Region, Inc. who are concurrently enrolled in high school and college courses. Expert Perspective

No matter your GPA, you should not be discouraged from applying for scholarships. I work with many students of varying GPA levels. If you are applying to scholarships with a lower GPA, you can always emphasize sports or hobbies, or any extracurriculars or services, or anything about you that makes you unique. You can also look for scholarships that help represent your identity or demographic.

How to win 2.0 GPA scholarships

Many of the scholarships mentioned about have a written component or even a video essay, so a great way to set yourself up for success is to work on your writing and essay skills. For example, many students find it somewhat difficult to write essays or talk about themselves. That’s why we’ve written guides for common prompts like “Why do you deserve this scholarship?” or just generally how to write about yourself. Other areas to work on include the start and end of your essay, which are very important to hook your reader and then drive your point home.

Overall, if you have the opportunities to tell scholarship providers about yourself, take advantage of it! Good luck!

Frequently asked questions about 2.0 GPA scholarships

Can you get a scholarship with a 2.0 GPA?

Yes, absolutely! Many scholarships have either a GPA minimum of 2.0 or no GPA requirement at all! It is important to note that boosting your GPA might give you more options when it comes to available scholarships.

What is the minimum GPA for most eligible scholarships?

Scholarships with GPA minimums vary widely, though one of the most common minimums for GPA is about 3.0. If you’re looking into more prestigious merit-based scholarships, this minimum might go up to 3.5 or even higher (though seeing an unweighted requirement higher than 3.5 is not very common.)

What does a 2.0 GPA convert to?

A 2.0 GPA is typically equal to a “C” letter grade. Check out our GPA calculator to convert your GPA to different scales!

Can I get accepted into college with a 2.0 GPA?

Yes! While being accepted to a more prestigious college might be a little more difficult, remember that more than just your GPA goes into college applications. It’s also a good idea to look at college alternatives if traditional ways of schooling aren’t the right fit for you. This includes looking into local community college programs or trade and vocational schools.

What does a weighted GPA mean?

Weighted GPAs take into account the difficulty of a course, while unweighted GPAs only take into account the grade the student receives. For example, if your high school offers honors or AP classes, these courses are typically worth more as far as weighted GPA goes, potentially adding .5 to 1.0 to your GPA compared to standard classes.
