***Idea harvesting scholarships will require students to submit blog posts or other materials that companies may use for marketing purposes.

    How to win golf scholarships

    Find local scholarships

One of the first places to look for athletic scholarships is within your community. If you are currently a part of a sports team with your school or even with an outside club or league, start asking your coaches about any local opportunities for scholarships and if you are interested in playing sports at a collegiate level, you can inquire with your coaches about the college scouting process.

    More on college scouting

Now is the time to start thinking about whether or not you’d like to pursue playing golf at a collegiate level. It’s important to note that playing sports for a college can be a very large commitment. But one of the main benefits is that depending whether you’re recruited on a D1, D2, or D3 team, you may receive an athletic scholarship for playing for your school, sometimes even a full ride!

    Up your writing game

When it comes to athletic scholarships, sometimes your golf game isn’t all that counts. You’ll want to make sure your writing game is up to par as well, whether that be an essay or a scholarship resume. In preparation for applying to scholarships, check out some of our essay writing guides to start warming up your writing muscles. Some of our most popular guides include:

    Resources for student golfers

    High School Golf

The National High School Golf Association stems from the PGA and has a wealth of resources for student golfers. One of the most valuable being their breakdown of scholarship statistics for golfers based on the specific golf division they are playing in.

    National Collegiate Club Golf Association

As another subset of the PGA, this page is a great resource for some of the more practical obstacles you might run into as a golfer. For example, they help connect players with coaches, post about equipment discounts, and list tournaments for players to participate in.

    Youth on the Course

Youth on the Course is a nonprofit organization that helps give young golfers all across the US, Canada and Australia the opportunity to play and feel included in their sport. They offer college scholarships, mentorships, internships, and leadership development for young golfers.

Frequently asked questions about golf scholarships

Can you get a full scholarship for golf?

Yes, but this typically means that you have been recruited to play golf for a certain school, and in return you receive a full scholarship (this mostly applies to playing at a D1 level).

What are the odds of being recruited to play at college?

Playing at a college level is typically much more competitive than playing at a high school level. Because of this, getting recruited typically requires the student to be athletically excellent at their sport. D1 teams are typically the most difficult to get recruited to, but also come with the most benefits, such as nice facilities to play in, a larger support system, and typically full scholarships.

What age do recruiters start looking at players?

Believe it or not, the college recruiting process can start as early as middle school! But typically, the discourse between players and recruiters mostly takes place late sophomore year and throughout their junior year of high school.
