Student smiles and wonders, "What is Datacamp?"

Online learning platforms are popular because they are convenient for busy lifestyles. While searching for a website to learn new skills, you might come across DataCamp. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about how DataCamp works and what it offers!

    What is DataCamp?

DataCamp is a website that offers courses to learn data science, analytics and AI skills. DataCamp helps users build upon their skills in a self-paced online environment. Three entrepreneurs from Belgium founded DataCamp in 2013. The trio aimed to create an education platform to help individuals and companies increase their knowledge and skills in the data science field.

DataCamp is for students, instructors, and professionals who want to learn data skills. Learning data skills is especially important in our evolving technological world. Let’s get started!

    How does DataCamp work?

To start, users can create a free account. If you have a course in mind, you can immediately begin by clicking on the desired course link on the website. If you aren’t sure where to start, the DataCamp website presents a four-part process: learn, practice, apply, and assess.

    • Learn: This process gets users started on their courses. Each course lists how long it takes to complete, the instructor’s name, and a short description
    • Practice: Offers daily challenges to reinforce continuous learning
    • Apply: This process includes real-world experience exercises and helps build users’ portfolios
    • Assess: Allows users to gauge where they fall as far as knowledge acquisition. Users can take an assessment in the course catalog to see where they stand

    How much does DataCamp cost?

For individuals, DataCamp offers both the Basic Plan and the Premium Plan.

    The Basic Plan

This plan is free for users, and provides a select amount of material, like certain courses and the first chapter of the library content.

    The Premium Plan

For a monthly price of $25, users have access to the full library, top programs, and certificates. Though DataCamp often offers sales that make the monthly price less expensive when users pay for the whole year.

DataCamp offers two options for businesses.

    The Team’s Plan

Priced at $25 per month for each user, this plan requires a minimum of two members, and allows users to organize groups and complete coursework together

    The Enterprise Plan

This plan is for employee training. The Enterprise Plan allows companies to create content, track users’ progress, and offers hands-on skill building. Unlike the other plans, the Enterprise Plan offers a custom price after a consultation with the sales department.

    What classes does DataCamp offer?

The DataCamp website includes nearly 500 courses led by expert instructors. Classes follow three different levels: beginner, intermediate, and expert. Data camp classes offer the lessons in video form. The videos are short to help users receive the information needed to learn without being overwhelmed. Interactive exercises follow the lessons to encourage information retention.

    Does DataCamp offer certificates?

Once users complete a course, DataCamp provides a “Statement of Accomplishment” certificate. These certificates are free and serve as proof that users completed a course. Users can also link them to their LinkedIn profiles as well.

How can I use DataCamp to benefit my professional life?

Users can follow a career track to learn about a particular career in data science. A track offers a collection of courses that advances users’ skills. This might be helpful for students to discover more about a career they’re interested in. The track helps build up their skills to help put them on the path to that career.

    Alternatives to DataCamp

    Coursera

Coursera is a popular learning platform that offers professional certificates. Certificates from Coursera take one to six months to complete, and teach career-related skills created by top companies.

    Codecademy

For longer lessons, you might look into Codecademy. Codecademy is also a learning platform that focuses on computer science courses, particularly teaching how to code. The courses are text-based and offer exercises. With a Pro or Pro-Lite membership, Codecademy offers certificates after completing a course.

    Udacity

Udacity is an online platform that focuses on technological learning. The platform offers a data science bootcamp with career tracks that are similar to coding bootcamps. Bootcamps at Udacity are called “nanodegree programs.” The nanodegree programs offer certificates of completion for students to share on their resumes.
