Top Connecticut scholarships
Roberta B. Willis Need-Merit Scholarship Program
- Eligibility: Connecticut resident who is a high school senior or graduate with a high school junior year class rank of 20% or better and/or at least 1200 SAT score or at least 25 ACT score. Must attend a Connecticut public or non-profit private college
- Amount: Up to $5,250 per year for full-time attendance in a 4-year program; up to $4,650 per year for full-time attendance in a 2-year program of study
- Deadline: February 15 annually
Connecticut Building Congress Scholarship Fund
- Eligibility: Graduating Connecticut high school students entering college-level programs in architecture, construction-related engineering, construction management, surveying, planning or other courses of study leading to associate, bachelors, or master’s degrees in the construction field
- Amount: $2,500 – $4,000
- Deadline: Opens in early December and closes in late March
The Meriden Foundation Scholarship Program
- Eligibility: High school seniors residing in the city of Meriden, Connecticut, or its surrounding areas and attending one of the following eligible schools: H.C. Wilcox Technical High School, O.H. Platt High School, or F.T. Maloney High School. Must be planning to enroll in full-time study at any certified undergraduate institution
- Amount: $1,200 – $10,000
- Deadline: Opens in January with a deadline in early March
Nancy Camp Scholarship (by the Elisha Leavenworth Foundation)
- Eligibility: High school graduates who are residents of Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Prospect, Thomaston, Waterbury, Watertown or Wolcott, Connecticut, and that have maintained an academic average of “B” or better
- Amount: $5,000
- Deadline: March 15 annually
Robert T. Kenney Scholarship
- Eligibility: Students of any age living in any one of the 64 Connecticut towns served by the American Savings Foundation. Scholarships are awarded primarily based on financial need. High school seniors must be ranked in the top 1/3 of their graduating class or have at least a 2.5 GPA. Current college students must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Amount: $1,000 – $3,000
- Deadline: Opens in December and closes in late March
SBM Charitable Foundation, Inc. Scholarships
- Eligibility: Full-time residents of Hartford, Tolland, or Windham County, Connecticut attending or planning on attending an accredited 2 or 4-year program in Connecticut full-time. Minimum 2.5 GPA or top 40% class rank
- Amount: $5,000
- Deadline: Opens in January and closes in late March
The Wethersfield/Rocky Hill Rotary Club Helping Hand Fund Scholarship Awards Program
- Eligibility: Any student living in Wethersfield or Rocky Hill, Connecticut may apply. The program is based primarily upon financial need. Additional factors reviewed are academic work, character, interaction with fellow students and extracurricular activities
- Amount: $4,000
- Deadline: April 15 annually
Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven Scholarships
- Eligibility: Jewish high school seniors from Greater New Haven
- Amount: $1,000 to $5,000
- Deadline: Mid May of each year
The Reginald Anderson Memorial Scholarship
- Eligibility: Be a Connecticut resident. Be a brain tumor survivor or recently diagnosed patient OR a caregiver to a family member diagnosed with a brain tumor. Demonstrate financial need
- Amount: Varies
- Deadline: Late April of each year
National Federation of the Blind Connecticut State Scholarship Program
- Eligibility: Any legally blind, full-time Connecticut college student or graduating high school seniors who will be attending college full-time in the fall. All finalists must attend the entire National Federation of the Blind of Connecticut state convention, to be held in the fall
- Amount: $2,500 – $5,000
- Deadline: Early September of each year
Day of Pride Scholarship
- Eligibility: Connecticut high school seniors from disadvantaged backgrounds who show academic success, commitment to diversity, leadership, and documented financial need. Attend the University of Connecticut. Nominations are made by the Guidance Counselor’s Office at each Connecticut high school
- Amount: up to full tuition at University of Connecticut
- Deadline: October 30 annually
Merit scholarships at Connecticut colleges and universities
Connecticut College
- Eligibility: Students entering their first year at Connecticut College. Based on high academic performance in high school.
- Amount: $15,000 – $32,000
- Deadline: Considered upon acceptance to Connecticut College
University of Connecticut
- Eligibility: Students who are entering their first year at University of Connecticut who have achieved a very competitive high school academic average.
- Amount: Up to full cost of tuition
- Deadline: First year students are automatically considered upon acceptance to University of Connecticut. Priority given to those who apply by December 1 annually.
Trinity College
- Eligibility: Students entering their first year at Trinity College. Have a 3.5+ high school GPA.
- Amount: $12,000 – full cost of tuition
- Deadline: First-year, full-time undergraduate students admitted to Trinity University are automatically considered
Fairfield University
- Eligibility: Students are evaluated based on their overall academic record, strength of their academic program, and extra-curricular involvement. There are no minimum grades or standardized test scores required for merit scholarship consideration.
- Amount: $14,000 – $26,000
- Deadline: Considered upon admittance to Fairfield University

On October 1st of every year, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens nationwide. Connecticut students should complete the FAFSA to be eligible for federal student aid as well as some scholarships.
Frequently asked questions
Is college free in Connecticut?
While tuition at four-year colleges and universities are not automatically free, eligible students can attend community college for free. The Pledge to Advance Connecticut (PACT) program offers free tuition at all twelve Connecticut community colleges. See the PACT website for details, but the major requirements are that applicants:
- Are graduates of public/private Connecticut high school (GED and home-schooled students qualify)
- Complete the FAFSA and accept all available awards
- Are first-time college students planning to attend college full-time (12+ credits per semester)
