How to win scholarships with $100,000+ awards

While scholarships with very large awards are obviously very attractive to a lot of students, it’s important to remember that this makes these scholarships extremely competitive, especially national scholarships. One way to find scholarships that are less competitive is to look for local opportunities for scholarships in your community, or to ask about specific scholarships offered at your college or university.

Some of these scholarships may have a more in depth application process than others, including writing multiple essays, gathering transcripts and asking for letters of recommendation. That’s why it’s a good idea to start prepping your necessary application materials and to check out some of our tips, especially our writing guides! We’ll list of few of our most popular below:

After writing your essays, make sure to edit and make them as concise and impactful as possible. If possible, ask friends or family or even teachers to proofread your essay just in case. Good luck and happy writing!

Frequently asked questions about scholarships with $100,000+ awards

Is it possible to get a $100,000 scholarship?

Yes, it is certainly possible to win a $100,000 scholarship, but these scholarships are typically extremely competitive, meaning you might not have a great likelihood of winning. While it’s still certainly worth applying, it’s important not to pull all your eggs in one basket. Looking into smaller scholarships as well, because even though they might not be as valuable, they might be a lot less competitive. Even scholarships worth $500 can make a difference when it comes to funding your education.

Can you still get financial aid if you win a $100,000 scholarship?

If you receive a large amount of money from a scholarship, this will impact the amount of financial aid you receive from FAFSA. Most likely, the amount of federal aid or aid from your school you receive will be reduced if you win a large scholarship. The amount of your scholarship plus the amount of financial aid you receive cannot exceed the cost to attend your college.

    How can I get a full-ride scholarship?

Full-ride scholarships mean the total cost of attending college is covered, including tuition and room and board. Because these scholarships are so valuable, they are highly competitive. Most fullride scholarships are awards to students who are extremely academically excellent. Many also have a financial need based component as well. If you are looking to apply to a full-ride scholarship, start looking for available scholarships as soon as you can, that way you’ll have the time to gather the necessary materials to apply.
