    How to win $500 scholarships

Many of the scholarships on this list require applicants to write a short essay. So, it’s time to start polishing your essay writing skills! To help with that, check out some of our writing guides like “How to write a winning scholarship essay” or “Best ways to respond to a ‘Why do you deserve this scholarship?’ prompt.” While you’re at it, you can also check out our advice on writing to 250 or 500 word limits, and writing a scholarship resume

Another thing that can help set you apart is looking for local scholarships. These scholarships may have less applicants, which means you’ll have a better chance at winning. Either way, finding scholarships that match your passions and interests is always a good idea. Good luck!

Frequently asked questions about $500 scholarships

Is applying for $500 scholarships worth it?

Some students might question whether or not it’s worth it to apply to scholarships worth lower amounts, but these scholarships tend to be somewhat less competitive than higher dollar value scholarships, making winning them more likely! And while $500 might not go a long way when it comes to paying for college, it can certainly make a difference. Plus, if you start winning a lot of smaller scholarships, you’ll quickly find that those will add up.

How rare is it to win a scholarship?

While winning scholarships can be difficult, it certainly isn’t impossible. According to Forbes, only 1 in 8 students win scholarships, with the vast majority of those scholarships being worth $2,500 or less. This is why applying for more small scholarships, rather than one big scholarship might be a better strategy when it comes to winning money for college.

Is there a scholarship that will pay for everything in college?

The type of scholarship that would pay for tuition, books, fees and room and board is called a full ride scholarship. These scholarships are amazing opportunities, but because of that they are usually highly sought after and have very particular application requirements.
