For the founders of Tortuga Backpacks, Fred Perrotta and Jeremy Michael Cohen, traveling abroad was the inspiration for their company. During a backpacking trip in 2009, the Tortuga founders recognized the need to streamline travel and avoid the hassle of checking luggage. The idea for carry-on-sized travel backpacks was born, and in 2010, they officially started Tortuga Backpacks. Fred and Jeremy, who were childhood best friends, know that it is not always easy to find the funds for study abroad trips. In offering the Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship, they help students experience more than just the college campus they are on.
