Dinah Shore Scholarship
The LPGA Foundation offers scholarships each year to support female student-athletes who played golf in high school. This year the foundation is offering three great scholarship opportunities which honor three women who were influential in the LPGA.
The Marilynn Smith Scholarship is for female golfers who plan on playing golf in college and the Phyllis G. Meekins Scholarship is for females of a minority background who plan on playing collegiate golf.
These are some great opportunities to check out, but today we are going to be profiling the Dinah Shore Scholarship. The Dina Shore Scholarship is different, because it is for female student-athletes who played golf in high school, but who will not be playing at the college level. Applicants must have participated in 50% of their team’s golf events or played regularly for 2 years.
The LPGA Foundation has not put up the application for this year yet, but the deadline will be in May. If interested, keep an eye on the scholarship website for updates. To get an idea of how the application is formatted, the 2009 version of the application is available here.
Other requirements for the Dina Shore Scholarship are a 3.2 GPA and an essay that describes the importance of golf in their life and how it relates to their goals. The winner will be notified in July and the scholarship entails an award of $5,000.
