The Beacon Scholarship for Rural America is specially for low-income students living in rural areas of the United States. This scholarship is sponsored by Carrot-Top Industries, Inc., a leading flag and patriotic products retailer since 1980. According to the Carrot-Top website, they “pride themselves on dedication to patriotism and community growth across America.” The Beacon Scholarship is awarded twice each year in spring and fall.
Who is eligible to apply for the Beacon Scholarship for Rural America?
All low-income college-bound graduating high school seniors, current college students, or adult learners residing in a rural areas are eligible to apply. Your city population, zip code population, and county population determine whether you are living in a rural area. How do I apply?
There is an online application where you can submit all the requirements. This is an essay scholarship, which means your best writing is key. In an essay of approximately 750 words, please respond to the following prompt:
How have you shown patriotism through your community involvement?
Be sure to write an engaging introduction and use vivid examples to support your essay. Finally, proofread for spelling, punctuation, and grammar to show that you care!
In addition the the essay, you will need:
- A copy of your most recent high school or college transcript
- Two letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches, counselors, other academic professionals or colleagues
- A current photo or school photo for marketing purposes
How much is this scholarship worth?
The scholarship is worth $1,000. The winner’s college or university receives the check directly.
When is the application due?
Carrot-Top Industries awards the Beacon Scholarship twice each year:
Fall 2021: June 30, 2021
Spring 2022: November 30, 2021
