What is the Stamps Scholars Program?
The Stamps Scholars Program was founded in 2006 by E. Row Stamps and his late wife, Penny Stamps. The Program funds “extraordinary educational experiences for extraordinary students.” Each year, the Stamps Scholars Program produces a diverse group of great new leaders.
What colleges and universities participate in the program?
Initially, the Stamps Scholars Program started out at just Michigan State and Georgia Tech, which are the founders’ alma maters. Luckily, the program is growing and now offers scholarships at over 35 colleges across the United States and the U.K. This includes a range of schools, including the Ohio State University, Mercer University, Tulane University, and University of Texas at Austin.
Will a certain major benefit more from the Stamps Scholars Program?
There are a large number of majors within the Stamps Scholars Program. Some examples of majors include:
- Music performance
- Mechanical Engineering
- Journalism
- Physics
- Architecture
- Economics
What kinds of scholarships are in the program?
Stamps scholarships amounts vary; scholars receive annual awards that range from $6,000 to $94,000 per year. This totals to between $24,000 and $376,000 for a scholar’s four-year total.
Stamps Scholars receive a financial award from the Enrichment Fund, which is a monetary fund that students can use towards their academic and career development. These funds usually range from $8,000 to $16,000 per scholar. The Enrichment Fund, also known as the “dream fund” by Stamp Scholars, can be used for volunteer opportunities, studying abroad, academic conferences, and more.
How do I become a Stamps Scholar?
Usually, you do not have to apply to be a Stamps Scholar. When you apply to one of their many partner schools, you are automatically eligible to be a Stamps Scholar– no additional application is required at most schools. While the majority of partner colleges and universities don’t require a separate application, some large universities do. Always double check about whether you will automatically be considered for the Stamps Scholar Program.
The Stamps Scholars Program looks for students who are academically strong, have leadership potential, and demonstrate exceptional character. Financial need is not a consideration for their application process.
