Offered by The Daughters of the British Empire (DBE)
Sarah Josephine Langstaff was born in Canada (one of the 56 member countries of the Commonwealth of Nations) before moving to the United States, and, thus, she believed in the importance of bringing together women from the various Commonwealth countries. As a result, she established DBE (Daughters of the British Empire) in 1909, and just 109 years later, the organization itself established a scholarship in her honor. If you, like Sarah, are a college-bound woman from the United States with Commonwealth of Nations ancestry, consider applying for the Sarah Josephine Langstaff Memorial Scholarship!
Each year, the scholarship awards four (4) $1,000 or eight (8) $500 scholarships to female undergraduate students who are U.S. residents with ancestral roots from Britain or the Commonwealth of Nations. Applicants must also have a minimum 3.0 GPA and submit a one-page typed essay with information about career goals and Commonwealth of Nations ancestry or heritage, as well as a transcript.
If you’re a female college student with ancestry in the Commonwealth of Nations, we encourage you to apply! Keep on reading to learn more.
