The Peter K. New Award annually awards between $750 and $3,000, in addition to a $350 travel stipend, to the three applicants who submit the best paper that reports on an applied research project in the social/behavioral sciences. Applicants’ research questions should be in the domain of health care or human services (broadly construed), and applicants must be graduate or undergraduate students registered at a college or university during the calendar year immediately preceding the presentation of the award. The scholarship was established to honor the late Peter Kong-ming New, a distinguished medical sociologist-anthropologist and former president of the SfAA (Society for Applied Anthropology).
