Offered by Archaeological Institute of America
The John R. Coleman Traveling Fellowship is open to AIA graduate and professional members who will use the award money to fund travel and study in Italy, the western Mediterranean, or North Africa, between July 1 of the award year and the following June 30. Applicants must also be engaged in dissertation research in a U.S. graduate program. Each year, the scholarship awards $12,000 to one applicant to go toward their travel and study efforts.
The fellowship was established to honor the memory of John R. Coleman, a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University who excavated and conducted archaeological research at Aphrodisias and Morgantina. If you’re a graduate student and AIA member wanting to study or conduct archeological research in the western Mediterranean, Italy, or North Africa, we encourage you to apply.
