The Bill Mason Memorial Scholarship Fund is open to students enrolled in and demonstrating past involvement and leadership in the fields of environmental education, outdoor education, or outdoor recreation. Applicants must also be Canadian citizens, be enrolled in Canadian undergraduate programs, have a B+ (75%) or higher academic standing, and have a background in paddling (canoe, kayak, or SUP), instruction, and/or leading. The scholarship was established to honor the legacy of the late Bill Mason, a renowned Canadian canoeist, environmentalist, filmmaker, photographer, artist, and public speaker. Thus, to apply, students must share their future plans and goals for continuing their involvement with environmental stewardship. Paddle Canada is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1971, and incorporated in 1972. It is the national association for recreational paddling in Canada.
