The NSHSS Performing Arts: Dance Scholarship is for rising high school students graduating sometime in the upcoming three years, as well as recently graduated high school seniors who demonstrate exemplary skill or interest in dance. NSHSS has created this scholarship dedicated to those interested in pursuing their studies in the performing arts. A portion of the application requires the applicant to submit a short video (no more than 5 minutes) of their performance. The Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship, developed by the past presidents of SHAPE America to honor deserving students, is awarded to three undergraduate students and two graduate students in January of each year. Eligible applicants must be SHAPE America members, be majoring in the fields of health, physical education, recreation, or dance, and submit two letters of recommendation in order to apply. While undergraduate recipients will receive $1,250 each, graduate school recipients will earn $1,750 each. In addition, all winners will be given a complimentary three-year SHAPE American membership.
