    Boston University (also commonly referred to as BU) is a large research university located in Boston, MA. BU has over 30,000 students and offers bachelors degrees, master’s degrees, and doctoral degrees across 17 different schools. If you are a student who wants to be in a large urban environment with lots of academic, extracurricular, and cultural opportunities then Boston University is a great option.

    BU also has generous scholarship opportunities including both need-based and merit-based scholarships.

    Need-Based Scholarships

    Boston University has a robust need-based scholarship program for incoming students with demonstrated financial need. In order to apply for need-based scholarships, students must submit both the CSS Profile and the FAFSA. BU’s need-based scholarship program is described in-detail on their website.

    BU Merit Scholarships

    Boston University scholarships include some really lucrative merit scholarship awards that range from $20,000 to full tuition. Merit scholarships are quite competitive at BU.  Per the BU website, merit scholarship candidates usually fit the following criteria:

    • Rank in the top 5% of their high school class
    • Have SAT scores above 1500 and ACT scores above 33
    • Have shown incredible extracurricular achievements in their schools and communities
