Vermont may not be the highest-populated or largest state, but when it comes to colleges and universities, they have many great options. Between public schools like University of Vermont and private liberal arts schools like Middlebury College, Vermont has something for any student.

Vermont is also a member of Tuition Break, which offers tuition discounts at public institutions for many New England states. Students from Vermont can attend partner schools for steeply discounted tuition, and students from out-of-state can attend Vermont schools with these same benefits.

Frequently asked questions about colleges in Vermont

What is the hardest school in Vermont to get into?

The college with the lowest acceptance rate in Vermont is Middlebury College with an acceptance rate of 13%. Don’t let the competitiveness of a school’s application process deter you from applying. There are many different factors for admissions to consider, as well as many factors beyond an acceptance rate for you to consider as well!

    Does Vermont have tuition reciprocity?

Yes! Vermont is a part of the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) which is an organization that partners with 5 other states in the northeast to give students the opportunity to attend out of state schools at a discounted tuition rate.

Why should I study in Vermont?

The New England area is very charming, with its coastline towns, scenic landscapes and famously vibrant fall foliage. This makes it a great place to be if you like to enjoy nature and outdoor activities like hiking and biking. Vermont in particular is one of the safest states in the country and has a strong sense of community being one of the smallest states in the country as well. Some of the most popular industries in Vermont include tourism, manufacturing and agriculture. That’s all to say, there is much more to Vermont than maple syrup.
