HITRECORD: Everything You Need to Know

You may have heard of Masterclass, Skillshare, Coursera, and other platforms, but there’s a good chance you haven’t heard of or experienced something like HITRECORD before. HITRECORD isn’t just another website where you can take classes, rather, it’s a community made up of people all around the world who want to create together!

HITRECORD’s story

HITRECORD was started all the way back in 2005 by Golden Globe Award nominated actor Joseph Gordon Levitt. The site began as a creative space where Levitt could post the projects he was working on. After the addition of the message board feature, people began to engage with each other and the HITRECORD that exists today started to take shape.

Flashforward to 2022, and HITRECORD has become a production company of ambitious community members who create fully finished projects. In addition, HITRECORD offers a plethora of ways to collaborate with their newest addition called “class projects.” Below we’ll dive into how HITRECORD works!

Mission, vision, and values

The mission behind HITRECORD is to inspire creativity through collaboration. Their goal is to create a world where everyone who desires it has a space to be creative and share the things that they create.

Through HITRCORD’s core values, they want people to know they’re committed to a space that is free of hate, welcoming to everyone, and not based around anything other than supporting community and creative expression.

The HITRECORD website has plenty of ways for you to get an idea of what their community is like. You don’t need to sign in or enter any information in order to explore their site. So, take some time to have a look around!

Projects

A “project” is what you’ll make contributions to on HITRECORD or something you create yourself to let others contribute to. Projects range from creating audio recordings, utilizing writing prompts, animation, and so much more!

You can feel free to contribute to any projects that pique your interest. You don’t have to have any special memberships or qualifications. Before contributing, you can take your time and see what others have added to the project as well.

Don’t be afraid to make your own contribution. HITRECORD community members know that there are people of all experience levels out there. For the HITRECORD community, it’s not about creating something perfect. Rather, it’s simply about creating, so get in there and start creating!

Class projects

If you feel like you need more direction or have a desire to learn more, there is a new feature from HITRECORD called “class projects.” Class projects are designed for community members to learn a specific skill from a qualified artist.

During a class, you’ll learn from videos and then create your own project that you’ll be able to get real feedback on and discuss with other members. After you set up your account, you’ll be able to explore these in more depth and sign up for them!

How it works

Perhaps one of the best things about HITRECORD is that it is not a subscription or membership based platform. Which means you can start creating right now!

When you first log on to HITRECORD you might feel a bit overwhelmed. There are so many projects, how can you choose which to participate in? Let’s walk through where to start and how to navigate the HITRECORD website.

Set up your account

Perhaps the best part of setting up your account  is that there are no membership or fees in order to participate. HITRECORD is entirely free. In order to sign up, you’ll just need an email and to set a password.

Set your filters

Once you have set up your account, you’ll have the option to set filters. These filters include what your interests might be, the types of projects you’d like to work on, and similar categories like that. HITRECORD has a large community of artists, which means without narrowing things down, there can be a lot to sort through.

Make your contributions

After you set up your account, you’ll set your filters and now you’re on your last step: find a project to contribute to! You might feel a little intimidated contributing, but that’s okay. On HITRECORD you can see what other people have submitted. So, take a minute to look at all the wonderful submissions and comments that people make.

In addition, if you’re not sure what project to begin with, start small. Some projects just ask for you to post a funny picture of a dog or the last picture in your camera roll, just for the fun of it. Have fun and don’t be afraid to get in there and contribute!
