URI Scholarships & Financial Aid 2022-2023

The University of Rhode Island, or URI, is the flagship public university of Rhode Island located in Kingston. URI is a large university with over 14,000 undergraduate students and offers 80 undergraduate majors across eight academic colleges.

URI offers a number of scholarships and financial aid opportunities to support students. These URI scholarships include the Thomas M. Ryan Scholars Program which is a full ride scholarship!

URI tuition & cost

The University of Rhode Island is a public university so the cost of attendance will depend on whether the applicant is a resident of Rhode Island.

Additionally, students who live in other New England states will receive discounted tuition per the New England Board of Higher Education Regional Student Program.

URI merit scholarships

URI also offers students a number of merit scholarship opportunities. In fact, all high school students who apply by December 1st are eligible for URI scholarships!

The eligibility criteria for scholarships at the University of Rhode Island includes:

Minimum GPA of a 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale)
Minimum SAT score of 1130 or ACT score of 23
Demonstrated involvement and leadership in school and community

The three major scholarships that the University of Rhode Island offers include:

  1. URI Presidential Scholarship
  2. URI University Scholarship
  3. Thomas M. Ryan Scholars Program

These scholarships range from a few thousand dollars a year to a full ride (including tuition, room, board, and more!).

URI Presidential Scholarship

The Presidential Scholarships are renewable and worth $1,500 to $15,000 per year.

URI University Scholarship

The University Scholarships are renewable and worth $2,00 to $10,000 per year.

Thomas M. Ryan Scholars Program

The Thomas M. Ryan Scholars Program is a full scholarship program which includes tuition, fees, housing, dining, books, and one winter study abroad experience for all four years of URI. Students also receive access to the University’s Honors Program, special advising, and other university events.

To qualify for the Thomas M. Ryan Scholarship, students will be selected from their admissions application and then invited to interview on campus.
