Offered by Unwiring
Are you a high school student who believes that certain aspects of social media today may be harmful, or who wants to see a change in how social media is used? If so, the Unwiring ReDesign Challenge may be the perfect opportunity for you! Each year, the scholarship awards between $25 and $500 each to 24 high school students from across the U.S. who submit videos (no longer than 3 minutes) in which they answer the question “What is the change you wish to see in social media?” Applicants are encouraged to think of and address this question in terms of algorithms, business models, design features, and other similar perspectives. Their answers should also be based around figuring out how social media can be made less “isolating” and “addicting”, and more about connection. If you’re a high school student passionate about the impact that social media is having on today’s youth, we encourage you to apply! Keep on reading to learn more.
Unwiring is a movement dedicated to catalyzing change within social media to support a healthier, more connected future. We strive to shed light on the negative implications and unethical inner workings of social media, educate young people on strategies for healthier use, and empower each other to have a voice in the future of social media.
