The Ted and Nora Anderson Scholarships are a fantastic opportunity for American Legion Department of Kansas members and their children in Kansas to receive financial assistance for their in-state education. Applicants whose parents’ membership was paid up in The American Legion and/or Auxiliary in the year of death are also eligible. Applicants must submit proof of enrollment at the start of each semester, three letters of recommendation, and their parents’ papers which show the date of entry and release from active duty. The applicant’s major field of study and the benefits provided to society will be considered in the final selection. The American Legion Department of Kansas is a war-time veterans community-service organization dedicated to supporting veterans and their families. The Department thus provides aid to veterans and sponsors youth programs to maintain an ongoing concern, support and commitment to the veteran community. In addition, the American Legion is strongly committed to maintaining a strong national defense.

Applicants' parent(s) must have either (a) been a member of The Kansas American Legion and/or Kansas American Legion Auxiliary for the past three (3) consecutive years or (b) have been a former member of The American Legion Auxiliary (if they are now deceased).
In addition to the below application materials, applicants must submit (1) papers showing their parents' date of entry and release from active duty and (2) a photo of themselves.
