The Paul Monette-Roger Horwitz Dissertation Prize is a prestigious award that recognizes outstanding dissertations in LGTBQ Studies within the City University of New York system. This scholarship is a tribute to the memories of Monette, a celebrated poet and author, and his partner, Horwitz, a respected attorney. If you’ve defended your dissertation between the Fall before the application year and the Spring of the application (deadline) year, you’re eligible to apply. To apply, you’ll need to submit a cover letter, your contact information, and a project description, along with one full copy of your dissertation and one full copy of the abstract. You can submit your application via email or file-transfer sites like WeTransfer, or by saving your files on a CD. Print copies won’t be accepted, so make sure to submit your application electronically.

The Center for LGBTQ Studies (CLAGS) was founded in 1991 as the first university-based research center in the United States dedicated to the study of historical, cultural, and political issues of vital concern to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals and communities. By sponsoring public programs and conferences, offering fellowships to individual scholars, and functioning as an indispensable conduit of information, CLAGS serves as a national center for the promotion of scholarship that fosters social change.
