The Ohio War Orphan & Severely Disabled Veterans’ Children Scholarship Program (WOS) awards tuition assistance to the children of deceased or severely disabled Ohio veterans who served in the armed forces during a period of declared war or conflict. To receive War Orphans Scholarship benefits, applicants must be 16 -24-year-old Ohio residents enrolled for full-time undergraduate study and pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree at an eligible Ohio college or university. While recipients attending Ohio public institutions will be funded 79% of tuition and general fees, those attending private institutions will receive an annual award amount of $6,618 for the year.

The Ohio Department of Higher Education is a Cabinet-level agency for the Governor of the State of Ohio that oversees higher education for the state. The agency’s main responsibilities include authorizing and approving new degree programs, managing state-funded financial aid programs and developing and advocating policies to maximize higher education’s contributions to the state and its citizens.
