The NYS Friends of Senator Jack Perry Migrant Scholarship is open to high school seniors in accredited New York State high schools, or high school seniors (outside of NYS) who have previously lived in or moved to New York State. Applicants should also currently qualify for Migrant Education services in New York State, and have been accepted to a post-secondary institution in the United States. The scholarship was established to honor a migrant farmworker student from New York State needing post-secondary scholarship assistance. The New York State Migrant Education Program (NYS-MEP) is a federally funded supplemental program that supports the implementation of educational and support services for migratory children and their families in the State. The goals of the NYS-MEP are to support migratory children in addressing educational disruption, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, health problems, food insecurity, homelessness, poverty, and other factors that inhibit such migratory children from doing well in school and making the transition to postsecondary education or employment.
