Are you a New Mexico resident enrolled part- or full-time in a public New Mexico college or university and hold a minimum 2.5 GPA? If so, you may be eligible for the New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship! The scholarship is awarded annually to New Mexico college students who have graduated from high school at least 16 months ago and have not yet earned a first bachelor’s degree. The New Mexico Higher Education Department's mission is to provide financial, academic, and policy oversight and support to the New Mexico public higher education institutions and their formal community partners for the purpose of promoting efficiency, accountability, and student success. Their goals are to foster and guide a system of higher education that best meets the needs of people in the state. They do so by providing financing to, oversight of, and support for all of the state’s public universities, colleges, and state-sponsored adult education programs; regulating the state’s private, for-profit institutions of higher education, and by offering programs in which both public and private institutions may participate.
Applicants must meet the below eligibility criteria and be attending a public New Mexico college or university. Bear in mind that the below list of colleges covers most, but not all, eligible colleges. Check out the New Mexico Higher Education Department's website to see the full list of eligible schools.
