The Maynard Jensen American Legion Memorial Scholarship annually awards $500 to graduating high school seniors/high school graduates planning to enroll in a Nebraska educational facility of higher learning, and current undergraduate students who will be enrolled in a Nebraska educational facility of higher learning by the March 1st deadline. All applicants must also be the sons or daughters, grandchildren or great-grandchildren, adopted or stepchildren of members of The American Legion, Department of Nebraska, or POW, MIA, KIA, or any veteran that was a current American Legion member at the time of death. Scholarship stipends may be used for tuition and fees, books, or room and board.

The American Legion Department of Nebraska is a war-time veterans community-service organization dedicated to supporting veterans and their families. The Department thus provides aid to veterans and sponsors youth programs to maintain an ongoing concern, support and commitment to the veteran community. In addition, the American Legion is strongly committed to maintaining a strong national defense.
