The Scholarships360 Research Team reviews all scholarships individually and strives to exclude any scholarship where any of the below applies:

  • The scholarship requires a fee to apply
  • The scholarship provider’s privacy policy allows for the misuse of student data
  • The scholarship requires paid membership in an organization (with certain exceptions for reputable trade organizations and others)
  • Student are required to sign up for a site or service to apply*
  • The scholarship seems primarily used for lead generation** or idea harvesting purposes***
  • The scholarship website has many grammatical errors and/or advertisements
  • The scholarship or scholarship providing organization seem untrustworthy
  • There is no evidence the scholarship was previously awarded
  • The scholarship has not been awarded in the past 12 months
  • There is no available contact information

Scholarship Overview

Have you had any original article of yours published in a NACADA double-blind peer-reviewed publication (currently the NACADA Journal and NACADA Review)? If so, the Leigh S. Shaffer Award may be a great opportunity for you! Each year, the Award grants an engraved award plaque, $500 towards travel to NACADA’s Annual Conference, and a one-year NACADA membership renewal to one such individual. Bear in mind that applicants must be nominated by any NACADA member besides themselves, as self-nominations are not allowed, and articles should have made a significant contribution to the scholarship of academic advising. To nominate someone, NACADA members must submit a completed nomination, a copy of the published article, and a statement of up to 350 words. Keep on reading to learn more!

Applicants/nominated individuals must have had an original article published in a NACADA double-blind peer-reviewed publication (currently the NACADA Journal and NACADA Review).

Application information

To be considered for the scholarship, individuals must have (1) been nominated by any NACADA member and (2) submitted an article to either the NACADA Journal or NACADA Review that has contributed significantly to the scholarship of academic advising. Nominators must submit the below application materials, in addition to a completed Nomination Submission form and a copy of the nominees' published article.
