The fellowships are open to students of Spanish or Portuguese nationality who wish to pursue graduate or postgraduate study in North America, Europe, or the Asia-Pacific region. They are funded by the La Caixa Foundation, a not-for-profit banking foundation based in Catalonia. They aim to “build a better and fairer society, providing more opportunities to those who most need them.” Thus, the La Caixa Foundation grants 80 fellowships every year, believing that supporting motivated students is a key to developing society. The fellowship covers university tuition fees, monthly allowance, travel expenses, health insurance, and more.
